Bumble Bee Babyshower Cupcakes!! 06/2013

A girl my husband works with (a repeat customer woohoo!!) asked me to make cupcakes for a babyshower she was helping throw. The theme was Bumblebees! She sent me two pictures of what she wanted so I tried my best to mimic what she wanted.

"Cash Register Cake" Thank You Letter

I got this amazing email from my "Cash Register" cake customer....its things like this that make me believe that I am following my passion and all my hard work truly pays off! Thank you so much KK for taking the time out to write this amazing letter....thank you also for trusting me to take on this task for you!!

'JILLIAN,

WHEN MY SISTER AND I STARTED PLANNING OUR PARENTS 50TH WEDDING ANNIVERSARY OVER A YEAR AGO, WE KNEW WE WANTED TO GO BIG.  WITH A VINTAGE THEME IN MIND, WE SET OUT TO SEEK THE PERFECT CAKE.  JILLIAN, THAT’S EXACTLY WHAT WE GOT!  FROM THE VERY FIRST TIME WE SPOKE, MY SISTER AND I WERE IMPRESSED BY HOW PROFESSIONAL, YET PERSONABLE YOU ARE.  I AM SURE THAT YOU HAVE NOT GOTTEN VERY MANY REQUESTS FOR CASH REGISTER CAKES!!   WHEN YOU CAME TO MY HOME, YOU WERE TRULY INTERESTED IN EVERYTHING WE WERE DOING FOR OUR PARENTS. YOU ASKED ALL THE RIGHT QUESTIONS AND ANSWERED OURS WITHOUT HESITATION.  YOU EVEN TOOK PHOTOS OF OUR DECORATIONS.  WHEN YOU SUGGESTED CUPCAKES AND MINI CUPCAKES, WE COULDN’T BELIEVE THAT WE HAD NOT THOUGHT OF THEM.  TO ME, THAT PROVED THAT YOU KNEW EXACLTY WHAT YOU WERE DOING!   ALTHOUGH YOU ADMITTED THAT A CAKE OF THAT CALIBER WAS A LITTLE BEYOND YOUR EXPERIENCE, YOUR CONFIDENCE AND ENTHUSIASIM MADE US TRUST THAT YOU WOULD NOT LET US DOWN.  WHEN YOU ARRIVED AT THE EVENT, YOU REMAINED PROFESSIONAL AND WORKED AROUND US AS WE SCURRIED ABOUT TRYING TO REMAIN ON SCHEDULE.

I COULD HAVE NEVER PREDICTED THE EMOTIONS THAT I FELT, WHEN I SAW THAT CAKE AND ALL THE CUPCAKES DISPLAYED SO PERFECTLY. WITH THAT SAID, I SHOULD HAVE EXPECTED WHAT HAPPENED ONCE THE GUESTS STARTED ARRIVING.     I SPENT THE MAJORITY OF THE TIME ANSWERING QUESTIONS ABOUT WHO BAKED THAT CAKE AND CUPCAKES!  SINCE I DIDN’T HAVE ANY OF YOUR CARDS, PEOPLE WERE WRITING YOUR NAME DOWN ON NAPKINS, PIECES OF TABLECLOTH, WHATEVER THEY COULD FIND!  IT WAS TRULY AMAZING.  MY MOTHER CRIED AS SOON AS SHE SAW IT AND LOOKED AT ME AND SAID “HOW IN THE WORLD?”

DEB AND I ARE TRULY IMPRESSED AND WE ARE SO HAPPY THAT WE CHOSE YOU FOR OUR BIG DAY!  HAVING YOU INVOLVED WAS TRULY THE “ICING ON THE CAKE”.

THANKS

50th Wedding Anniv. Cake / Cupcakes 08/2013

By far my biggest most challenging cake/cupcake order yet! I received an email from a lady who saw my advertisement my brother had posted on the Sheriffs Office bulletin board. She inquired regarding a "pretty special" order. After many emails back and forth I was finally able to meet with her and her sister to do final preparations for their parents 50th Wedding Anniversary. On that day we discussed final Cupcake Flavors and quantities. She said they were expecting a LOT more people then they originally planned and would need to add more to the order. I really didn't know what I was in for until I started with this order....my oven was on for 6 hours straight (which I later found out added about $65 to my electric bill that month!!), I baked and baked and baked. I didn't want to make anything too early because I pride myself on making things absolutely as fresh as they can be. I had all the cupcakes baked and put away by Thursday morning...then came this cake....

The cake of all cakes....probably the biggest, most challenging cake I will ever make. I don't know what I was thinking by starting this cake on Thursday....I was up making this cake for 24 hours and all I had was the cake stacked with the frosting....no shape, no fondant, no decorations, no nothing on this cake yet. (Thankfully I had started most of the Fondant decorations Wednesday so once I was ready I could easily just add these on). When Friday afternoon hit I went into straight panic mode....I didn't think I was going to be able to get this cake completed in time for the 9am drop off on Saturday. My mom came over and stayed with me and talked me thru calming down. I think honestly if she hadn't come over and helped my physically and emotionally I would have had to call this customer and said I am so sorry I couldn't finish on time....my mom was an absolute savior...she dealt with the non sense I was making from the lack of sleep and the snippiness of panic mode!! She also helped me do whatever I needed done. After inhaling about 12 cans of gold dust edible spray paint (not to mention everything in a 10 foot radius was covered with a golden sheen) we were done!! We finished at about 5:30am on Saturday....my mom went home to sleep for 2 hours and I passed out on the couch for about an hour....at this point I had been up for almost 48 hours and I was a useless mess!! The biggest challenge was going to be the traveling out to Arcadia in the morning...........

I sat in the back of our SUV with rubber gloves on in a straight panic that every little dip or bump in the road mine and my moms hard work was going to be left in crumbles along with my tears....I apparently copied down the wrong address because after driving for almost 40 minutes it took us out on this dirt road that was filled with the biggest pot holes I have ever seen (probably not, but felt like it because I was extremely worried about the cake falling over!!)...once we arrived at the house I called to ask where my customer was and she said "oh no you are at my parents house!"....so.........we had to turn around and go down this what felt like endless dirt/bumpy road again and drive to the Church location. When we finally arrived at the location I was relieved that the cake was still in one piece! My mom and I walked the cake into the hall and placed it on the table and quickly set up the 8 dozen large cupcakes and the 75 mini cupcakes in the allotted areas the customer had set up. I can't tell you how relieved I was to walk out of that venue that the cake made it in one piece and I was finished!!

So what did you get from all this jibber jabber....I had the most amazing, most challenging cake order yet....had the best time with my mom and my husband and I didn't get a divorce after this week! lol!! I am so thankful she approached me and had the faith in me to complete this order for her parents very special day!!

Happy Birthday Tyler B! 08/2013

My little neighbor friend Tyler was turning 5 and is crazy about Mario...his mom asked me to make just a small cake to feed them....I printed out a picture of Mario and Yoshi and traced them onto his cake and handmade all the Fondant cutouts to look like a scene from the Mario game.
Cake Flavor:
Vanilla with Vanilla buttercream

Such a little cutie pie!!

Neighborhood Luau Party! 07/2013

I seriously live in the best neighborhood...tightknit neighbors with kids all around the same ages all looking out for each other!! We all like to party and have a great time so why not constantly find excuses to throw a party! These cupcakes were to contribute to this party! The day started off gorgeous (HOT, but gorgeous out!) but if anyone knows Florida it can rain with a snap of your fingers during the summer, right after the food was served the clouds rolled in and the torrential rain came down, and when I say torrential I mean ridiculous buckets full of rain came down! We all scrambled for surrounding garages and tents but the rain was so bad we (me and another lady grabbed boxes of my cupcakes) and ran into my neighbors house....I mean who would let delish cupcakes go to waste because of a little rain? lol!!
Cupcake Flavors were:
Vanilla with Vanilla Buttercream (kids favorite and request!)
Coffee Heath Bar Cupcakes with Coffee Buttercream topped with Crumbled Heath Bar (delish!!)
(only had pictures of the coffee ones! :) )

Dana's "Luau" Bridal Shower 07/2013

My sister in-law was helping throw a bridal shower for her soon to be sister in-law and asked me to make the cupcakes! She wanted flowers on some of them and a beach ball/umbrella on the others....I handmade each flower from Starburst candies and the "Beach balls" were actually bouncy balls! It was very hard to find beach balls that small so I thought these worked out pretty well as a substitute! Cupcake flavors were:
Vanilla with Vanilla and Chocolate Buttercream
Chocolate with Vanilla and Chocolate Buttercream

Wedding Cupcakes / Cake 06/2013

My first wedding!! This was the customer that I did her daughters nursing school graduation cupcakes for! This was 150 Cupcakes and a Small Bride and Groom Cake. Each cupcake was topped with a handmade Calla Lily and placed in a pretty little Cupcake Wrapper to tie into the all White theme! This was by far my biggest/most time consuming order yet! The cake was covered in White buttercream rosettes and topped with handmade Calla Lily's. Cupcake flavors were:
Vanilla Cupcakes filled with Coconut Buttercream topped with Vanilla Buttercream
Chocolate Cupcakes filled with Peanut Butter Buttercream topped with Vanilla buttercream
Red Velvet Cupcakes filled and topped with Cream Cheese Frosting
